About the Artist:
Linda Kaye was born in Pueblo Colorado and moved with the family to Olney Springs, a little country town in Colorado. Years later she moved with her family
to California. As a volunteer in school her mother assisted with art projects and props for school plays and often used items found at home such as milk
cans and food coloring. These early art projects helped form young Linda's interest in art.
After marrying her husband Edward and having a family of her own, she often used art to teach and play with her two young daughters Katie and Colleen. With
every move of the family she continued to attend local community colleges in various cities, taking many art classes including charcoal, watercolors, print
making, acrylics, sculpture, ceramics, cooking, quilting, bead weaving, stained-glass construction, and theater.
Her art is inspired by experiencing the presence of the canyons, palm trees and oases, during her frequent hikes through the desert.
Statement of the Artist:
I love our desert with its hidden oases, surprising you at times, along the desert trail. My work attempts to show the magic and solitude that one feels
while visiting these beautiful locations. Painting is a refuge from everyday life, just as the oasis is a haven from the heat of our desert.
My work is done using acrylic paint in layers on a stretched canvas. I enjoy the feel of the palette knife as it applies the paint to the canvas; it feels
as if I am sculpting with the paint. Each time that I paint one of these palm trees and the surroundings, I discover some new aspect of this remarkable tree.
This observation tells me that nature is very complex, and dynamic with its many layers.
My art has been a journey that I hope to continue. I have many things to discover and I have no idea as to where this journey will take me.
