About the Artist:
Christina was born and raised in West Yorkshire, England, the heart of the industrial north. It is here, she came to develop a love for textiles, color and
design.
In Queenstown, NZ Christina became a successful, and in much demand, weaver. Many of her wall hangings went to Japan, America and several countries in
Europe. Some were installed in public buildings around the South Island of New Zealand.
In the early "80's Christina arrived in California and decided to explore new mediums to interpret her love of color, texture and design: painting.
Artist's Statement:
"This series of work is my interpretation of the contrasts and harmony of urbanization and nature. A pleasing arrangement can be found in the ever increasing sprawl of urban settings against the backdrop of untouched skies. Color, composition and vibrant marks on the canvas are an emotional and intuitive response to places I have imagined, visited or dreamed. The spatial depth and vibrancy of colors found in nature, juxtaposed with the rigid geometry and visual cacophony of urban streets provoke a response that connects the beauty found in both worlds."
